Holiday Update

Season's Greetings all!
It's been a chaotic holiday season so far. I finally got all the presents wrapped and finished the dollhouse for my granddaughter. I have also been working on a few more boxes and setting up for the next year's creative adventures.
Recently I received an email from one of the folks who set up all the conventions like Monster-Con. Apparently the small incorporated city in which the venue is located has decided to start charging vendors a fee to sell there, along with the large fee we already pay to the convention service. Added to what I pay for booth space this fee makes it financially untenable for me to continue doing these conventions. I am sad, but I know there are plenty of other conventions around the area, so I will be looking into those as the year starts.
My Etsy shop isn't doing as well as I would've hoped, so I am looking for ways to boost it as well.
That's about it for now. Have a Merry Christmas everyone!

Update on new directions

Good morning folks! Hope you're having a great day :)  I'm sitting here in the studio with the heater going, making plans for the next week or so. I have a few new things I will be working on, hopefully. I want to work on another box, this one for my daughter for Christmas, plus I want to make a huge batch of bath salts and scrub bars. I am thinking of putting those and some soaps into my shop. The other thing I am looking at doing is clearing out a bunch of vintage and antique pieces I have in storage and getting those into the shop as well. I looked into a brick and mortar store space rental this past week, but the costs are too high for me right now. I need to get the Etsy shop going before I think of a rental.
Well, I know it's a short post, but I am going out of town to pick up some things I won in an auction on Thursday, so I need to get moving.
 Have a great weekend all!

Good morning fellow inmates!
I've been working on getting my shop loaded and setting up the ability to take credit cards and I am happy to say that both have been done!
My Etsy shop is now open at : https://www.etsy.com/shop/RavenNtwngCreations
I have put in a few pieces, including all 3 deer skulls and several canvasses with more to come. I am also all set to accept credit cards at whatever con I go to next.
I picked up a couple of interesting things at several estate sales this last week and a couple of those will eventually make it into the shop when I am done adding my special touch to them.
This week is full of outings, beginning with an auto auction on Wednesday and several more estate sales on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. My husband also has a doctor's appointment on Tuesday, so I'm not going to have a lot of time to work this week. I better get stuff done while I can so I have to take off now. Keep it creepy folks! Until next time..

Back from Monster-Con and Moving Forward

Good morning fellow inmates!

Monster-Con is done, we had a great time and now it's time to look towards the future for Raven Nightwing Creations. I have a lot of things I want to do, so I've decided to work on some new projects in different art mediums. I have always loved nature photography, and have dabbled in it for a few years, but never really did a lot with it. I am thinking of working more with it and see where that leads. I am also going to try my hand at resin art and upcycling furniture.
To be honest, sales this past weekend weren't where I wanted them. I got tons of people saying they liked my canvasses, but not a lot of buyers. I had one woman buy 5 though. I think that most of my stuff was to classic for the folks there so I need to update and modernize things.
Art is difficult sometimes. It depends on so many factors that can't be controlled, like the type of folks coming by the booth and their ages and what is popular right then. I am conflicted as to whether I should stay with the things I have done and hope I get sales or if I should follow the crowd and do what's "in". Maybe a bit of both?
Today I am going to set up an Etsy shop and see how that goes. Maybe things will work better this way. I will be dong other cons, just not until after the first of the year. I need time to work stuff out and get it organized. I will continue working on things though. For now, here are a couple of pics from Monster-Con with some new friends I made :)
Killer Clowns from San Antonio came by. Jingles on the left, me, Giggles on the right. Great guys and watching them terrify folks was a riot :)

My daughter and granddaughter came out to help.

READY FOR MONTER-CON!

Hello again fellow inmates!
I've been really busy getting everything done for Monster-Con and this weekend is the grand affair. I received my booth location this morning, and for good or ill, I am stationed right in front of the Spirit Halloween Store. The vendor on the other side of the door is another artist who also makes horror and fantasy art. Yay.
I have a bunch of new pieces since the last time I checked in and I will be uploading them soon. I got a new phone, and am still figuring out the camera's edit feature. I am sure none of you want to see my messy studio. It's even worse than normal right now due to all the boxes, tables, chairs and miscellaneous stuff sitting around waiting to be loaded for the weekend. I will be honest, I am really nervous. It's not that I am not confident in my art, just nerves about this being my first selling event and being surrounded by a bunch of other artists selling similar items. Wish me lots of luck :)
Well, I'm going to take off and get the stuff I have in the house ready to go. See y'all after Monster-Con!

Weekly update and a beautiful skull

Sorry for the missing days fellow inmates. Life has been kinda busy around here. I have gotten more pieces done this week, the first being my favorite:
I found the skull at a yard sale purely by accident and decided to expand my work onto other things besides canvasses. I love how it turned out. It will be a showpiece at Monster-Con.
My business cards came in and so did the stamp with all the contact info, so I am getting the cards stamped and ready to go. I forgot to put the contact info on the back, you see, so I had to fix that.
Today I am doing home things, and catching up on stuff around here.
Gotta get moving so as always, keep it creepy :)

More clowns in the asylum

Greetings my darling inmates!
I have been working on lots of stuff for Monster Con lately. Mostly vendor things, but I have made a couple of new pieces.
I am hoping to meet the Killer Clowns from San Antonio, so I thought I would do a couple of evil clowns to add to the collection.
I am also planning to contact a local hamburger place in San Antonio, called Monster Burgers, to see if I can display some of my artwork in their place. Hopefully it will generate some sales for me.

I have really been interested in the old-time freak shows lately, and made a piece for that as well:
I love how the colors in the background worked out.
Finally, I have an adorable picture of three ladies that will just cast a spell over you:

That's all for today folks. I need to get back to work making the world a bit more creepy. Keep it spooky until next time!

Studio tour and Batty!

Welcome to another glorious day at the asylum!
I promised a view into my studio the other day and I lost track of my mind (happens often), so here are a couple of pictures I took of some of my workspace:

I have another easel, and a work table but they are really messy right now and though I love chaos, it doesn't make for pretty pictures, so those will have to wait.
In other news, I got my bat tattoo done yesterday. I love him! He is really cute.
He does have a couple of boo-boos, but my regular tattoo artist can fix them.

Today I am working on frames for a couple of canvasses and making a swamp witch canvas. I will post pics when it's done. I have a few more things to do before I am completely ready for Monster-Con, but I am well on my way! I am so excited! I am also getting to meet the Killer Clowns from San Antonio, which is awesome! It's going to be a fantastic time!

Gotta get back to the grindstone. Keep it creepy!

Greetings and Salutations fellow inmates!
Today I am going into San Antonio to participate in a fundraiser for San Antonio Pets Alive! Saving animals from euthanasia is a cause near and dear to my heart. I believe every animal deserves love and a forever home. For this fundraiser, SAPA has teamed with a local tattoo parlor, Ink and Iron Tattoos and for every $50 small animal tattoo done until this Sunday, half the proceeds go to SAPA. So, I am getting a cute little bat done on my wrist. Here is a picture of the bat:
Isn't he just the cutest little guy? The banner behind him won't be part of the tattoo. I couldn't get it out of the picture. He will blend right in with all my other tats and will be a cute addition to the sleeve I am having done on my left arm. Normally I don't do cutesy tattoos, but I just couldn't resist. I love bats. His place will be under the haunted house and jack o lantern once they are done. I'm thinking something like this, minus the wording:

Anyway, I am getting ready to go, so..
  Keep it spooky!

Thursday, August 22, 2019

Good Morning fellow spooky people! Today I am sharing some of my newest pieces that I will be selling at Monster-Con. If you don't know what that is, it is a mini horror themed convention in San Antonio, TX at The Wonderland of the Americas mall. It runs on Sept.28-29 this year. Onward into the pics!
 Come play with us!
 So, do you?
 Here's Chucky!

As you can see, I did these really simply. I try not to get the pictures all muddled up in most of my pieces. Earlier works were pretty chaotic and took a lot of time for placement and all. Not that there's anything wrong with them, I just wanted a few to be more character-focused. These will be selling for $15.00 each.

Here is a collage I did of Frankenstein and the Bride:

This one brings a lot of elements from the film into play. I love the way it turned out.
It will be selling for $20.00.

Tomorrow I will share more pieces and give a look into my studio. Until then, stay spooky, my dears!

Welcome friends and fellow asylum patients
I'm Raven. your hostess and resident artist in lunacy. I love all things weird, creepy, and macabre and hope you enjoy your little side trip into my world.
Today I am going to share with you one of my favorite quotes:
This is something I live by when creating. Now, I know some of you might be a little concerned that my art is going to go all nasty and gory and the like, but I can assure you, this is not the case. I do have standards, you know :) I will not put vulgarity or unnecessary nudity or things that make my art unsuitable for kids. I do more creepy and disturbing, for the most part. I love Halloween and especially the old horror films from the 30's and such, so there will be a lot of black and white with just a touch or two of color thrown in. I also do modern horror, but try to keep the nastiness to a minimum. I hope you like my work, and please feel free to leave me a comment.
